In the first two months, there were slightly more than 205 thousand tourists in Croatia who achieved 678 thousand overnight stays, which is about 50 percent of the number from the same period in 2020. The most overnight stays in the first two months of this year were achieved by domestic tourists, around 427 thousand, which is around 85 percent of last year’s results, reports the Croatian National Tourist Board.

January and February were the only months last year that there was no significant impact on the tourism industry in Croatia due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In fact, the first two months of 2002 saw even better tourism results than 2019, which was a record year.

Clearly the travel restrictions and measures against the spread of Covid-19 in foreign countries have affected the number of tourists arriving but still there were 275 thousand overnight stays in hotels in the first two months, 234 thousand in private accommodation and 24 thousand in camp sites.

The destinations with the most overnight stays were Zagreb, Rovinj, Split, Zadar and Opatija. And apart from domestic guests the most overnight stays were achieved by tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Germany and Italy.
