On the occasion of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) released a promotional video and a brochure called "Tips for Responsible Travellers".

"Tips for Responsible Travellers" were made on the basis of the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, and consist of a set of principles designed to guide key-players in tourism development.

Among others, they advise travellers how to behave and manage in foreign destinations, and talk about the imperative to respect the host and the common heritage, environmental awareness, the importance of being an informed traveller who respects national laws and regulations.

They also highlight how the travel culture requires that national and local economies are encouraged by purchasing local handicrafts and products. In this way, local crafts are promoted, and the purchase and consumption of local products, from traditional souvenirs to the gastronomic offer, help create the visibility of the destination and encourage the growth and the development of small tradesmen.
